Mr. Guillermo Martinez
Chair
National Advisory Council on Migrant Health

Rockville, Maryland 20857

Dear Mr. Martinez:

Thank you for your letter welcoming me and for the recommendations from the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health. The issues you raise are very important in assuring that health services are available to migrant and seasonal farmworkers throughout our Nation.

As you know, reducing barriers and improving access to quality care for all our populations, including migrant and seasonal farmworkers, is a crucial function at the Department of Health and Human Services, and one that we are committed to. I have sent your recommendations to the appropriate agencies within the Department for evaluation and analysis.

I appreciate your invitation to join you during your meeting in the Washington area. I am grateful for the Council's advice and recommendations, and look forward to working with you in the future. A similar letter is being sent to Ms. Karen Watt, Vice-Chair, National Advisory Council on Migrant Health.

Sincerely,

/s

Michael O. Leavitt
