Response from Michael Leavitt regarding 2005 NACMH recommendations

Bruce E. Gould, M.D.
National Advisory Council on Migrant Health

Dear Dr. Gould:

Thank you for your letter expressing concerns about migrant farm workers and the problems they face in accessing health care coverage when they enter another state for employment purposes.

You suggest that our Report to Congress on Migrant Health (the Report) include a central tenet that states must follow Federal law when determining residency for migrant workers.

Please be assured we wil keep your concerns in mind as we continue our work on the Report. The Report wil look at barrers to eligibility and address the possible solutions listed in the legislative mandate. I appreciate your sharing your concerns with us on this matter.

A similar response is being sent to the cosigner of your letter.

Sincerely,

/s

Mark B. McClellan, M.D., Ph.D.
