Background

During the summer of 2008, HRSA/BPHC will provide training to grantees focused exclusively on the new quality of care reporting requirements which will first be used to report calendar year 2008 data in early 2009. The summer Clinical Measures training target audience includes information technology, quality improvement, and clinical staff who supervise quality improvement activities. Please note that the basic UDS training which covers each of the UDS reporting tables will continue to be offered in the late fall and winter.

These half-day training sessions will be provided by BPHC’s UDS contractor from mid-May through mid-August. Starting times will be negotiated with each PCA in order to facilitate ease of access for member health centers. The sessions will cover:

  • A brief history of clinical measure reporting in the Health Center program
  • The 3 Clinical Quality measures and the 3 Outcome and Disparities measures
  • What the measure is and what constitutes “compliance”
  • What is the “universe” of patients for each measure
  • Data sources: EHRs or electronically augmented chart reviews
  • Sample sizes
  • Details of what codes and conditions will be searched for in measuring quality, outcomes and disparities
  • Sampling techniques and technology

Exercises will permit the participants to look at some fine points of decision making and to make use of reporting tools which will be provided at the training.
